Yunnan Province, China:

Kunming, Yunnan Province, China

Kunming Summer English Camp

Program dates: Mid July dates (tentative)

For the past three years, The Edge has had the opportunity to partner with a very successful private school in Yunnan Province, China. The school offers enrichment classes for students age 7-18. During the summer, the school provides a "SUMMER CAMP" experience. The student’s English ability varies greatly but our focus is to form relationships with Chinese teachers and support the objectives of the school. The camp is truly a Summer Camp with exercising, crafts, games, music, hiking, swimming, field trips and some English Instruction. Volunteers should be in good physical condition and participate when possible in camp activities. Walking long distances may be required. Food is usually simple but tasty. Average daily expenses are about $20 for hotel and food. The camp has been in a mountain setting but a new site is being investigated for 2010. There is also a possibility to meet with many interesting people in the local area.

Mengzi, Yunnan Province, China

Program dates: Late July – mid August (tentative)
Program consists of teaching English to teachers creating opportunities to share the good news. Classroom size 20-25 students. Interaction with indigenous people (e. g., personal relationships with students, opportune meetings (PW). Teaching Chinese English teachers English and developing relationships. Mengzi is a smaller city with no western restaurants, expect to eat Chinese.

Sichuan Province, China:

Greater Chengdu, Wen Jian Summer English Program, EFL Teachers

Program dates: TBD

Program consists of leading conversational English classes creating an opportunity to build relationships with students. Preparations are for middle school students and older with and expectation there will be mostly university age students. Classroom size: 5 – 12 students per class.

Nan Chong Summer Program, EFL Teachers

Program dates: TBD

Projects include teaching English, interacting with people, building relationships with students. Preparations are for middle schools students and up. Be prepared to team-teach or teach solo depending on the size of the class. Classroom size: 20 –25 students per class. Teaching curriculum with be the new summer program materials and field trips.

Prayer Journey

Chengdu, Northwest China Team – June 19 – July 3, 2009

Pray in strategic areas such as universities, parks, and temples as well as areas that are heavily traveled and populated. Prayer walking takes advantage of spiritual insights you gain as you “Pray Onsight With Insight”. The spiritual battle rages as the evil one attempts to keep millions upon millions lost in the darkness. Prayer is foundational!

Zhuzhou Summer Program

Program dates: TBD

Projects include teaching English, interacting with people to build relationships. There will be seven separate class groups, from primary to adult and a class of English teachers. The junior will have a Chinese teacher to assist. Classroom size will be 20 – 25 students.

Lakakh, India

Certified teachers with at least 2 years experience, ESL/EFL experience desired, but not required to teach middle/high school village students. Classroom size: 25-40 Teaching procedures include instructional techniques, interactive learning for EFL; (Vocab, grammar, conversation, storying)

Kazakhstan:
EFL Teachers

Astana, Kazakhstan

Flexible dates: March, April, May, October, November & December

The program consists of building relationships by teaching English at the student center in Astana. The average age of students will be 17 – 21 years old but expect all ages in the classroom. There will be an average of 8 – 15 students per classroom. The weather is cold with snow. Expect to do a lot of walking, climbing stairs and riding buses. Estimated cost: $2500.00
